Integral Finned Tubes for MSR
SPECIALIZATION

In nuclear power stations, Moisture Separator Reheaters (MSR) dry and reheat steam exiting the high pressure turbine before it enters the medium and low pressure stages. VALTIMET has developed a proprietary method of enhancing the outer tube surface with integral fins, to accelerate the heat transfer. Our finned tubing promotes economical material use and reduces the MSR's size and cost.

INNOVATION

To meet the tolerance and quality demands of nuclear plants, VALTIMET has designed a unique, totally integrated production method for finning stainless steel tubes, typically in ferritic alloy 439L, under the patented name of ValfinŽ. Valfin tubes can also be manufactured in austenitic stainless steel or titanium. These tubes are available with 19 or 27 fins per inch, in lengths up to 46 meters, and are bent according to customer requirements. Their crest diameter equals the diameter of plain tubes so they can be easily inserted through baffle plates and plugged into tube sheets.

QUALITY

You can count on our proven reliability, in testing and in use. VALTIMET's MSR production lines are specially designed for welding ferritic stainless steels. MSR tubes undergo ultrasonic testing, and are then cold finned to yield optimum quality. Finned tube samples are taken at regular intervals and examined on profile projectors (called optical comparitors) to assure dimensional conformance. Afterwards, the entire tube is heat treated, eddy current inspected and bent to specifications. Millions of meters of Valfin tubes are in service throughout the world today.
